18 Feb A casa Tornesi è l’ora della potatura!

Tempo di potatura a Montalcino, tempo di lavorare in vigna e di occuparsi delle piante.
E’ Maurizio ad occuparsi del grosso del lavoro. Spalle forti, mani grandi e tanta esperienza dietro di sè, perchè la potatura non è un intervento banale, soprattutto da qualche anno, quando il tempo ha cominciato, inesorabilmente, a fare le bizze.

“Abbiamo cominciato a metà gennaio- racconta Maurizio- ed andremo avanti fino a marzo, ma non oltre. A partire da Aprile- spiega babbo Maurizio- toccare la pianta rappresenta un pericolo non indifferente. In gergo noi diciamo che la pianta piange, dal momento che dal ramo reciso fioriscono minuscole goccioline di acqua. Piange la pianta e con lei piangiamo anche noi”.

At Tornesi’s house it’s time for pruning!

It’s pruning time in Montalcino, time to work in the vineyard and to take care of the plants.
It is Maurizio who takes care of the big part of the work. Strong shoulders, big hands and a lot of experience behind him, because the pruning is not a trivial intervention, especially since a few years, when the weather began, inexorably, to make its whims.

“We started in mid-January – says Maurizio – and we will go on until March, but not later. From April- explains Maurizio’s father – starting touching the plant represents a danger.
In “slang” we say that the plant cries, since tiny drops of water fall out of the severed branch. The plant is crying and we too cry with it “.
