11 Ott Vendemmia di squadra

Siamo finalmente a Ottobre.

Tra dita incrociate e gli occhi rivolti al cielo, abbiamo atteso con trepidazione questi giorni, sperando che il meteo non facesse brutti scherzi. Abbiamo temuto gelate e grandinate, ma alla fine questo 2019 ci ha graziati!

Adesso lo possiamo dire: sarà una grande vendemmia, sarà una grande annata!

Per la verità la raccolta delle uve a Castelnuovo, avvenuta a settembre, ci aveva già rincuorato molto: bellissime, sane, con una maturazione da manuale. A Montalcino abbiamo atteso, come di consueto, qualche giorno in più. Anche qui grappoli sanissimi, che hanno concluso la loro maturazione in modo ottimale, grazie all’escursione termica diurna delle ultime settimane. 

Adesso si raccoglie. La formazione è sempre la stessa, con qualche aiuto in più.

Babbo Maurizio non sta in vigna, ma è pronto ad accogliere le uve in cantina. L’ultima parola spetta a lui.

Renata, Elisa e la new entry in azienda (grande acquisto di casa Tornesi) Valentina sono schierate in vigna. Guanti, forbici e pure qualche battuta ogni tanto, per sentire meno la stanchezza.

 A capo dei lavori, poi, nonna Renata, bastone alla mano e sorriso sul volto. Ci controlla lei, che di vendemmie alle spalle ne ha molte più di tutti noi. A volte scende in vigna, a volte ci supervisiona dalla strada. Guardarla sorridere è un supporto psicologico notevole, nonostante la stanchezza. La filosofia della nostra azienda sta tutta qui: nel passaggio e nel supporto generazionale, nell’andare avanti con le nuove generazioni, guardando a quelle passate che ci sorridono, ci fanno l’occhiolino e, qualche volta, ci correggono!

Harvesting as a team

It’s finally october.

Between fingers crossed and eyes turned to the sky, we anxiously waited these days, hoping that the weather would not play tricks on us. We feared frosts and hailstorms, but in the end this 2019 has graced us!

Now we can say it: it will be a great harvest, it will be a good year.

Actually, the grape harvest in Castelnuovo, in September, had already reassured us: beautiful, healthy, with a textbook maturation. In Montalcino we waited, as usual, a few more days. Here again very healthy bunches, which have finished their maturation in an optimal way, thanks to the daily temperature variation of the last weeks.

Now it’s harvest time. The lineup is the same, with some extra help.

Dad Maurizio doesn’t stay in the vineyard, but he waits the grapes in the winery, he has the final say.

Renata, Elisa and the great new entry Valentina, stay in the vineyard with gloves, scissors and sharing a few laughs, to not feel the tiredness.

The head of the works is Grandma Renata, with her walking stick in hand and a smile on her face. She controls us, because she has many more harvests behind than all of us. Sometimes she goes to the vineyard, sometimes she supervises us from the road. Watching her smile is a remarkable psychological support, despite the tiredness.

Our philosophy is all here: in the generational handover and support, in moving forward with the new generations, looking at the past ones that smile at us, wink at us and, sometimes, correct us!
